Your driver's license permits you to drive across the country. But your vehicle does not enjoy the same freedom. As a bike is essentially registered with a Regional Transport Office (RTO), you can only ride it in the area within the jurisdiction of your RTO. If you plan to sell your bike or ride to another part of the country, you must obtain a No Objection Certificate. This article explains what a No Objection Certificate for a bike is and how to obtain it.
What is a Bike No Objection Certificate?
A No Objection Certificate for your two-wheeler is a legal document that certifies your fulfilment of obligations with the RTO before using your vehicle or moving it to another region, beyond your state's borders. The certificate also states that you have paid the EMIs on the bike loan, and the applicable challans, taxes, etc. You need not apply for a NOC if you intend to travel with your vehicle to another state for three months or less. The NOC becomes mandatory only when you exceed this duration. After issuance, the two-wheeler No Objection Certificate remains valid for up to six months.

You simply need to visit your respective RTO with the NOC, payment receipt, and supporting documents, including the pollution under control (PUC) certificate, vehicle registration certificate copy, insurance papers, driver' license, etc. After verification, the RTO will provide clearance and hand over the NOC.
Keep your bike insurance active
If you require a bike no objection certificate to sell your two-wheeler to a buyer from another state, you can do so without letting the insurance policy lapse. The key is to transfer the bike insurance to the buyer along with the ownership. The process to do the same involves contacting your insurance company and informing the RTO office. The RTO will require insurance papers and other documents concerning your vehicle. After verifying the paperwork, the RTO transfers your bike insurance to the new owner within 14 days.
